So, WhatsApp guys, welcome back once again!
So friends, today we are going to cover a story called Hachiko: A Dog’s Tale Story.
Friends, if you’ve ever heard about loyalty and honesty, surely an example of a dog must have been given, because in your difficult times, a human may leave your side, but a dog will never abandon you until its very last breath. So let’s begin the story.
The Classroom Introduction
At the start of the movie, we are shown a school where all the kids in a classroom are talking about their heroes. Among them, a girl speaks about her hero, Columbus. She says that if Columbus had not discovered America, then he wouldn’t have been her hero, because without any fear, he took his little boat into the sea. This showed his bravery. Hearing this, all the kids clapped for her.
And now comes the turn of a boy named Rajni, who writes on the blackboard: “My Hero is Hachi.”
All the children are puzzled, wondering what he has written.
Rajni then explains that Hachi was his grandfather’s dog, about whom no one really knew where he came from. Then Rajni goes to the back of the class and begins telling everyone Hachi’s story.
Hachi’s Arrival
From here, we see a small puppy being delivered to its new owner’s house as a parcel. The puppy was locked inside a tiny crate. But on the way, the crate broke open, and the puppy escaped, reaching a railway station. The person transporting him had no idea that the puppy had gotten out of the crate.
Wilson Finds the Puppy
On the other side, we see a man named Wilson at the railway station, who notices this puppy. We learn that Wilson is a professor at a Japanese university and also a music teacher. He immediately picks the puppy up in his arms.
Wilson looks around but finds no one who has come to take the puppy. So he takes it to the station master. From this, we also understand that Wilson is well-known in the city and respected as a good music teacher. He tells the station master about the puppy and asks him to hand it over if someone comes to claim it. But the station master refuses to keep the puppy and tells Wilson to take it with him instead.
Hiding Hachi at Home
Hearing this, Wilson brings the puppy home and hides it in a small room because he didn’t want his wife, Cate, to know about it. Cate never liked dogs at all. But after a while, she sees the puppy and is surprised, asking Wilson, “Where did this dog come from?”
Wilson explains that he found it at the station and will take it away somewhere far the next morning.
The Puppy’s Popularity
The next morning, Wilson’s daughter sees the puppy and instantly likes it. She requests that her mother to let them keep the puppy at home. But Cate firmly refuses.
So Wilson takes the puppy to a doghouse where many stray dogs are kept. But the owner there tells him:
“I could keep it, but this little one won’t survive here; he’s too small. Instead, give it to some animal lover. This puppy looks very cute. Someone will definitely adopt him.”
Hearing this, Wilson starts thinking about finding an animal lover.
Searching for a Home
Wilson thinks of his friend and takes the puppy to her house. But she already has a cat, so she refuses to keep the puppy.
After this, Wilson goes to several people’s houses, hoping that someone might agree to keep the puppy. But everyone refused.
Now he again goes back to the station master, hoping maybe the puppy’s owner might have come to take it back. But no one had come. Completely disappointed and unable to abandon it anywhere, Wilson decides to take the puppy to his university, since his wife wouldn’t allow him to keep it at home.
University Life and Hachi’s Tag
At the university, in the middle of rehearsals, the puppy roams around, looking very cute. Wilson doesn’t scold him. After class ends, Wilson takes him to his Japanese friend Ken, because there was a tag around the puppy’s neck with something written in Japanese.
Ken tells Wilson that the puppy came from Central Japan. The tag had the number 8 written on it, and in Japan, the number 8 is pronounced Hachi. So this wasn’t just any ordinary dog, but a very special breed.
Hachi Chooses His Owner
Ken adds that it seems the puppy has already chosen its owner, meaning Wilson, and would now prefer to stay with him.
After a lot of searching and running around, Wilson has no other option left, so he is forced to keep Hachi at his home. But little did he know that Hachi would end up changing his entire life.
At Home with Cate
Back at home, Wilson tells Cate the whole story: that no one was willing to keep the puppy, so he brought him back.
Cate angrily says that Wilson has already named him Hachi so quickly!
Wilson also mentions that he has put up posters on the road with Hachi’s picture, in case someone recognizes him and comes to claim him.
Hachi: A Dog’s Tale-Hachi’s Growth and Loyalty
Hachi Breaks Cate’s Project
While they’re talking, suddenly they hear a crashing sound. When they rush outside, they see that Hachi has broken one of Cate’s projects that she had been working on for days. Cate becomes furious and yells at Wilson, telling him to take the puppy outside immediately and never bring him into the house again.
With no choice left, Wilson takes Hachi outside and leaves him in the storeroom.
Bringing Hachi Inside During Rain
That night, it rains heavily. Suddenly, Wilson wakes up and remembers Hachi, who must be getting wet outside. Without telling his wife, he goes to the storeroom and brings Hachi inside. There, he does some research on the internet and learns that this breed of dog is mostly found in Japan and was among the first breeds humans befriended.
Reading this, Wilson feels very happy and special, thinking about how lucky he was that Hachi chose him. After this, he falls asleep while watching TV with Hachi.
Cate’s Apology
The next morning, Cate wakes up and doesn’t find Wilson beside her. She hears the sound of the TV downstairs, and when she goes there, she sees Hachi as well.
Wilson is asleep on the sofa, but Cate feels guilty and apologizes, saying it’s because of her that he has to sleep downstairs. She requests that Wilson let Hachi stay in the house just for one day. Listening to her words, Wilson agrees.
Teaching Hachi to Fetch
The next morning, we see Wilson playing outside with Hachi. He tries to teach Hachi how to fetch a ball, but no matter how many times he shows him, Hachi never learns. Then Wilson himself acts like a dog to demonstrate how to fetch the ball.
A little later, his daughter comes outside and also starts playing with Hachi.
Hachi Becomes Part of the Family
Meanwhile, a man comes to Cate with an offer to adopt the puppy. But when Cate sees how happy her daughter is with Hachi, she refuses and says someone has already taken this dog. By now, Cate also doesn’t want Hachi to leave; she has accepted him as part of the family.
Hachi’s Bond with Wilson
After this, we see that Hachi has grown up, and his bond with Wilson has become very strong. They are always together, and every morning, Hachi starts playing with Wilson.
Some days pass, and as usual, Professor Wilson leaves for college in the morning. He locks the gate so Hachi won’t go outside. But Hachi digs under the garden and escapes. He runs straight to the railway station.
Hachi Follows Wilson to the Station
Wilson had already boarded the train, but when he looked outside, he saw Hachi standing on the station. Shocked, he immediately gets off the train and goes to Hachi, telling him, “Go home, I have to go to work.” But Hachi doesn’t listen and just stands there.
Wilson finally gives in to Hachi’s stubbornness, missing the train and returning home with him. On the way, Cate sees them and asks why he is here instead of at college. Wilson explains he missed the train because of Hachi. Cate tells him to catch another train and assures him she will take care of Hachi.
Everyday Routine
Cate and Hachi spend time together. Hachi looks at Cate from different angles, plays, and enjoys himself.
By evening, it is time for Wilson to return from work. As soon as Hachi hears the sound of the train, he runs to the railway station and quietly sits there, waiting. The moment Wilson arrives, Hachi becomes very happy and starts playing with him.
From this, it’s clear that Wilson and Hachi cannot live without each other. Days, months, and years pass like this.
Special Moments
Later, on Wilson’s daughter’s wedding day, Hachi is also present, enjoying the celebrations.
One day, Wilson tells his friend that no matter how many times he asks Hachi to fetch the ball, he never brings it back. His friend explains that Hachi isn’t an ordinary dog; normally, this breed never fetches the ball. But the day he does, it will be for a very special reason.
Hearing this, Wilson decides he will try to find out why Hachi never does it.
Hachi’s Loyalty
Whenever Wilson goes to work, he deliberately shows Hachi that he is leaving, so Hachi can follow him. Hachi does the same; he reaches the station behind Wilson. When Wilson tells him firmly, “Go home,” Hachi quietly walks back. But in the evening, Hachi again goes and sits outside the station, waiting. Seeing him, Wilson feels very happy.
This routine continues every day. Wilson leaves for work, Hachi escorts him, and when Wilson returns, Hachi happily welcomes him. They are always together, and Wilson gives more time to Hachi than even to himself.
Winter and Cate’s Pregnancy
Winter arrives, and snowfall begins. One day, Cate comes to Wilson and tells him that she is pregnant. Hearing this, Wilson becomes very happy, hugs her, and Hachi also seems cheerful, seeing their joy.
One morning, as Wilson is about to leave for college, he calls Hachi, “Come on, I’m ready.” But Hachi refuses to go with him and runs away. Wilson is shocked, and so is Cate. Wilson approaches Hachi and lovingly says, “Come with me,” but Hachi still refuses.
Hachi: A Dog’s Tale-Hachi’s Final Years and Legacy
Hachi Fetches the Ball for the First Time
Since it was already time for his train, Wilson began to leave. For the last time, he asks Hachi, “Will you come with me or not?” But Hachi doesn’t respond.
As Wilson leaves, we see Hachi pick up the same ball in his mouth, the one he always used to play with Wilson. Carrying it, he runs toward the station.
Meanwhile, Wilson reaches the station but pauses, feeling that perhaps Hachi might still come. Suddenly, he sees Hachi returning with the ball in his mouth. Wilson smiles and says, “So, you want to play with me?” He throws the ball far away, and for the very first time, Hachi fetches the ball and brings it back. Wilson throws it again, and Hachi fetches it once more.
Seeing this, Wilson becomes very happy and tells the station master, “Did you see that? For the first time, he’s done it so perfectly.”
Hachi’s Loyalty and Refusal to Leave
Now it’s time for Wilson to leave. He tells Hachi, “Go home now.” But Hachi refuses and starts barking loudly, as if trying to stop him. Still, Wilson boards the train to go to work.
After Wilson leaves, Hachi goes to the railway tracks and watches the departing train. For the first time, it feels like Hachi senses that someone is going very far away.
Wilson’s Sudden Passing
Afterward, Hachi returns home. Meanwhile, Wilson is teaching his students about music, holding the same ball Hachi had brought. Suddenly, he feels uneasy, sits near the piano, and collapses.
It is then revealed that Wilson has passed away due to a heart attack.
This is the moment when Ken’s words are realized: “The day Hachi fetches the ball back, know that it will be for a very special reason.” That day, Hachi seemed to know that something very bad was about to happen to his master.
Hachi Waits Faithfully at the Station
Evening comes, and innocent Hachi reaches the station as usual. He does not know that the face he has been waiting for years, Wilson, will never appear again. Hachi waits from evening until night, but Wilson does not return.
It starts snowing heavily, and the cold becomes intense, but Hachi’s determination does not break. He continues waiting faithfully at the station.
Cate’s husband eventually comes to the station and takes Hachi home. But Wilson is nowhere to be seen, and Hachi becomes very sad.
Hachi’s Devotion Inspires Everyone
Hachi continues going back to the station every evening, refusing to leave. Days, months, and years pass, but he never stops waiting for Wilson. Gradually, his loyalty spreads everywhere. People at the station start feeding him, giving him water, and looking after him.
A reporter from a newspaper clicks Hachi’s photo and writes about him. The reporter tries to take Hachi along, but he refuses; he will only go if Wilson comes.
Five years pass, seasons change, but Hachi’s wait does not end. Even after nine years, Hachi is still at the station, waiting for his master. Though he has grown old, he never gives up.
People nearby, including vendors, are moved to tears. Hachi’s unwavering loyalty touches everyone’s hearts.
Hachi’s Passing and Legacy
Finally, Hachi dies at the station while waiting, remembering all the beautiful moments spent with Wilson. He never forgets his master.
The story shifts back to the present, where a teacher tells Hachi’s story at school. Children cry when hearing the tale. Hachi’s father appeals to the children to remember the story.
The movie concludes by showing Hachi’s real photo and revealing that he passed away in March 1934. Even today, it feels as if Hachi is still waiting for his master.
Lesson from Hachi’s Story
The story does not have a conventional happy ending, but it leaves a powerful lesson: whether it is a person or an animal you love, never leave them. Cherish every moment, because life is unpredictable.
